German team visits Technopark campus, IT Mission

A five-member delegation from the German city of Kaiserslautern visited Technopark campus and the office of the Kerala State IT Mission here on Thursday.

An official spokesman said the aim of the visit was to seek opportunities of bilateral collaboration and identifying and adopting best practices from both places.

Technical team

The German team was led by Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern, Dr Klaus Weichel. Members included Dr Dieter Rombach, an authority on embedded software at the Fraunhofer Institute; Dr Weirner Weiss, Head of Insiders Technology; Dr Lars Weichel from chemicals giant BASF AG; and Mr Michael Wenk, Managing Partner of PrePark Kaiserslautern.

The Chief Executive Officer of Technopark, Mr Mervin Alexander, welcomed the delegation and gave an overview of development of IT in Kerala.

The team later visited the office of the Kerala State IT Mission and met with the Director, Ms Ishita Roy, and her team.

The team also met with Mr Korath V. Mathew, Director, Akshaya e-services. It was taken through a presentation on e-governance initiatives in the State and Akshaya's activities.

Talk delivered

Dr Rombach delivered a talk on embedded systems, which was attended by students of the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala, and as professionals from various Technopark companies.

Dr Weirner Weiss, head of Insiders Technology, interacted with some of the Technopark companies to identify possible areas of business collaboration.

Dr Lars Weichel of BASF had consultations with officials from the Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram and officials dealing with public health.

The delegation also met with the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram and exchanged views. Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern invited the latter to visit Kaiserslautern.

Mr M. Vasudevan, Senior Manager (Business Development), Technopark, made a brief presentation on the campus to the visiting delegation.
